Recently I did a leaflet swap with Amanda from the Sling It team. My leaflets for the ‘Help Your Child With Their BIG Emotions’ course are going in the goody bags for the event. It might not surprise you to learn that I’m a babywearing (and now toddlerwearing) parent. As my business is all about children and parents connecting it’s an obvious and natural decision to keep my little one close. When he was teeny tiny I loved having him right with me. He’d spent 8 months snuggled up inside me growing away and I knew that he this new world that he’d arrived in was full of new things to see and start to make sense of. He was happiest when being close to me or my husband so wearing him in a sling felt comfortable and helped him feel secure.
Fast forward to 2 ½ years later and we still use a carrier, now mainly on my back. We can have little chats as we’re walking along and it really helps to stay connected, emotionally and physically. He’s at that stage where he likes to walk most of the time but his little legs run out of steam sometimes so the carrier is perfect for these times.
If you’re going to Sling It I hope to see you there – please say hi. You’ll most likely find me at the Up Project stall or collecting Carriers for Kos (which you can drop off in the family area (near the children’s play areas) or wandering around looking at all the lovely slings!

The mission of The Up Project is to ensure that children who are affected by disability, serious illness, depression, domestic abuse or poverty are given the opportunity to experience the benefits of being carried in a baby sling or carrier. These benefits include but are not limited to improved health, wellbeing, safety and relationships.
We achieve this by providing the child’s family with an appropriate sling or carrier and the skills and knowledge to use it safely and comfortably.

This is a project set up to help refugee families who are having to carry their children long distances as they flee the conflict in Syria. A carrier is sent from our families to theirs.
